PM Surya Ghar Yojana: Subsidy, Application Steps and Rooftop Solar Checklist
VUKAR AutomationShare
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana supports residential rooftop solar. The central assistance structure lists ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or above, subject to the scheme rules and approval process. Begin through the official National Portal.
For a household, the useful starting point is its electricity bill, roof and daytime electricity use. A solar quotation becomes easier to assess when you know your monthly units and understand exactly what equipment and installation work are included.
PM Surya Ghar subsidy by system capacity
| Residential rooftop capacity | Central assistance under the published structure |
|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹30,000 |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 |
| 3 kW | ₹78,000 |
| Above 3 kW | ₹78,000 cap under the standard structure |
The government describes assistance of ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the next 1 kW. Use the National Portal to confirm the category and rules applicable to your application. Keep any state benefit separate from central assistance when comparing quotations.
Prepare these details before applying
- Your electricity consumer number and a recent bill.
- The name on the connection and the installation address.
- A mobile number you can use throughout the application.

The exact screens, requested uploads and sequence can change. Follow the instructions shown in your account and the requirements of your DISCOM.
What should a complete solar quotation include?
Ask for module brand and model, total panel capacity, inverter rating, mounting structure, cables, protection equipment, earthing, installation, taxes and any metering-related work. Ask the vendor to identify which items could cost extra, including a raised structure, roof repairs or a longer cable route.
Write down the gross system price and expected assistance as separate amounts. Ask who handles each application step and when each payment is due. A quoted subsidy deduction should be supported by the scheme requirements for your installation.
Does the scheme mean every bill becomes zero?
The scheme's stated aim includes electricity benefits of up to 300 units a month. Your actual bill depends on generation, household use, shading, season, the metering arrangement and applicable charges. Model your own consumption using the electricity bill calculator and review solar sizing with the rooftop solar planning tool.
Common questions
Is a panel price the same as a rooftop-system price?
A rooftop system also needs its inverter, mounting, wiring, protection and installation. Compare complete scopes before choosing between quotations.
Where should I check my application status?
Use your account on the official National Portal and retain the application number for follow-up with the relevant vendor or DISCOM.
How much capacity should I choose?
Use consumption records, usable roof area and a site assessment. The subsidy ceiling alone is not a design calculation.
