Which power value should I use?
Use the motor's rated shaft output in hp, kW or W and its efficiency from the nameplate or manufacturer data. The calculator divides output power by efficiency to estimate electrical input power.
Formula and assumptions
Energy per run = input kW × run hours. Monthly energy = energy per run × runs/day × operating days. Cost = kWh × your energy rate. Apparent power = input kW ÷ power factor. Current uses input power ÷ (voltage × power factor) for single phase and input power ÷ (√3 × line voltage × power factor) for three phase.
What this estimate excludes
- Fixed charges, demand charges, slab changes, taxes, penalties and subsidies.
- Power variation with voltage, loading, pump head, flow, wear and controls.
- Different runtime or tariff across seasons.
Nameplate comparison and safety

Do not open or probe live electrical equipment unless you are qualified and using appropriate equipment; direct measurement remains more reliable.
