Electricity Bill Calculator: Units, Meter Readings & Appliance Cost
Estimate your electricity bill from units used, meter readings or appliance running hours. Enter the rates and charges from your latest bill to see a clear cost breakdown. One electricity unit is one kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Calculate your electricity bill
For the units and billing-period charges you enter.
Use electrical input watts and actual running hours. For cycling loads such as ACs or refrigerators, use measured average input or effective runtime.
Preset wattages are editable examples. The pump example is 1,000 W of electrical input; it is not a fixed input for a 1 HP motor.
Enter your tariff
Enter increasing cumulative unit limits for this billing period. Each block is charged at its own rate. The last row covers all remaining units. These limits are not automatically prorated by billing days.
Example values: ₹8/unit and the sample slabs are illustrations, not an official tariff. Replace them with your provider’s applicable rates.
Add fixed charges, other charges or credits
Enter the final rupee amounts for duty, fuel adjustments, meter rent or other charges under “Other charges”. Include each amount once. Subsidies are entered manually; eligibility is not calculated.
- Energy charges
- ₹1,200.00
- Fixed charges
- ₹0.00
- Other charges
- ₹0.00
- Credit / subsidy
- −₹0.00
- Estimated bill
- ₹1,200.00
Slab-wise energy charges

Where the units go
The result includes only the rates, loads and bill components entered here. It is an estimate for the selected inputs.
How to calculate an electricity bill
| You have | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Units on the bill | Enter billed kWh directly. |
| Meter readings | (Current reading − previous reading) × meter multiplier. |
| Appliance usage | Input watts × quantity × hours/day × days ÷ 1,000. |
Simple bill estimate = energy charges + fixed charges + other charges − entered credits. With one rate, energy charges are units × rate. With slab rates, calculate each block separately and add the amounts.
Example: 150 units at ₹8 per unit
150 × ₹8 = ₹1,200 in energy charges. If the bill also has ₹100 in fixed charges and ₹50 in other charges, the estimate becomes ₹1,350 before any entered credit. These are calculation examples, not provider tariffs.
Electricity bill calculator: common questions
How many kWh is one electricity unit?
One unit is one kWh. A device taking a steady 1 kW of electrical input for one hour uses one kWh.
Can I use this for my electricity provider in India?
Yes, by entering your applicable rates and charges. The slab mode handles cumulative blocks where each block has its own rate. It does not automatically select a state, fetch tariffs or apply provider-specific subsidy, time-of-day, non-telescopic or kVAh billing rules.
Why is my actual bill different from units multiplied by rate?
Your bill may include slab rates, fixed charges, duty, fuel adjustments, arrears or credits. Enter the relevant rupee amounts separately. Your provider’s bill and applicable tariff determine those charges.
Can I calculate a 1 HP pump’s electricity consumption?
Use electrical input power or measured kWh. HP normally describes motor output; efficiency and load affect input. Open the pump electricity cost calculator for a pump-specific estimate.
How should I enter an AC or refrigerator?
Use measured average input and representative operating hours, or energy measurements over the period. Their compressors cycle or vary speed, so maximum input watts multiplied by 24 hours can overstate typical use.
